Questions or concerns? Reading this Privacy Notice will help you understand your privacy rights and choices. We are responsible for making decisions about how your personal information is processed. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our Services. If you still have any questions or concerns, please contact us at quaintlq@icloud.com.
ChatTranslate is designed to process your voice and text locally on your device by default. On-device speech recognition runs via Apple Speech, Google on-device recognition, Vosk, Whisper (sherpa-onnx), or Qwen3-ASR (sherpa-onnx); on-device translation runs via Apple Translation, ML Kit Translate, Gemma, or Hunyuan Hy-MT2; OCR runs via ML Kit — all entirely on your phone. When you use these on-device features, your spoken audio and the text you translate are not uploaded to our servers.
Cloud features. The App also offers optional cloud speech recognition and translation powered by third-party providers (Google Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Alibaba Cloud). When you choose a cloud feature (for example, a language not yet available on-device, or the cloud tier), your audio and/or text is sent directly to the selected provider for processing and is not stored by us. You can always stay fully on-device.

In Short: We collect personal information that you provide to us, but most of your data is processed locally and never leaves your device.
We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register on the Services, express an interest in obtaining information about us or our products and Services, when you participate in activities on the Services, or otherwise when you contact us.
Personal Information Provided by You. The App does not require you to create an account or user profile, and we do not collect a username. We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide, which may include:
Your Voice and Text. When you use on-device features, your microphone audio is captured temporarily and processed locally by our on-device speech recognition engine (Apple Speech, Google on-device, Vosk, Whisper/sherpa-onnx, or Qwen3-ASR), and the text is translated on-device (Apple Translation, ML Kit, Gemma, or Hunyuan Hy-MT2). For on-device features, neither your raw audio nor the text you translate is transmitted to our servers, and audio is discarded immediately after recognition; we do not retain voice recordings. When you use a cloud feature, your audio and/or text is transmitted directly to the third-party cloud provider you selected (see "WHEN AND WITH WHOM DO WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?") and is not stored by us.
Sensitive Information. We do not process sensitive information.
Payment Data. We may collect data necessary to process your payment if you choose to make purchases, such as your payment instrument number, and the security code associated with your payment instrument. All payment data is handled and stored by Apple, Google Play, and our subscription provider RevenueCat. You may find their privacy notice link(s) here: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/, https://policies.google.com/privacy, and https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy.

In Short: Some information — such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address and device characteristics — is collected automatically when you use cloud features or contact our dispatch gateway, for operating the Services, security, and debugging.
We automatically collect certain information when you visit, use, or navigate the Services. This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information) but may include device and usage information, such as your IP address, device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, and diagnostic data. If you are located in the EU or UK, this section applies to you.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR require us to explain the valid legal bases we rely on in order to process your personal information. As such, we may rely on the following legal bases to process your personal information:

Cloud features: When you use a cloud feature, your audio and/or text is sent directly to the specific cloud AI provider you selected (listed below) solely to perform the recognition/translation; we do not sell it or use it for advertising.

In Short: We may use cookies and other tracking technologies to collect and store your information.
We may use cookies and similar tracking technologies (like web beacons and pixels) to gather information when you interact with our Services. Specific information about how we use such technologies and how you can refuse certain cookies is set out in our Cookie Notice: http://zengfeiyue.github.io/voiceechotrans/cookie-policy.html.
In Short: The App does not offer social-media or third-party account login, and you do not need an account to use it.
We do not provide the ability to register or log in using a third-party social media account (such as Facebook or X). The App operates without a user account; it uses only an anonymous device identifier to enable cloud features. If we introduce social or third-party login in the future, we will update this Privacy Notice.
In Short: We may transfer, store, and process your information in countries other than your own.
Our dispatch gateway is operated from servers located in China and the United States. In addition, when you use a cloud feature, your audio and/or text is processed by the selected cloud AI provider (Google Cloud, Tencent Cloud, or Alibaba Cloud) in its own regions. Regardless of your location, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored by, and processed by us and by these third parties, including facilities in the United States, China, and other countries.
If you are a resident in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), or Switzerland, then these countries may not necessarily have data protection laws or other similar laws as comprehensive as those in your country. However, we will take all necessary measures to protect your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Notice and applicable law.
For transfers of personal information from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland to countries that have not been deemed to provide an adequate level of protection (including China and the United States), we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum (as applicable), or another lawful transfer mechanism under applicable data protection law. Our cloud AI providers (Google Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Alibaba Cloud) and our dispatch gateway are each covered by such safeguards where required.
In Short: We keep your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Notice unless otherwise required by law.
We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Notice, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. Voice audio and translated text are processed on-device and are not retained by us after recognition.
When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize such information, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.
In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.
We have implemented appropriate and reasonable technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. Because most processing happens on your device, your voice and text are not exposed to network interception during recognition. However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.
In Short: We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect data from or market to children under 18 years of age or the equivalent age as specified by law in your jurisdiction.
This App does not collect personal information from children. If we learn that personal information from users less than 18 years of age or the equivalent age as specified by law in your jurisdiction has been collected, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable measures to promptly delete such data from our records. If you become aware of any data we may have collected from children under age 18 or the equivalent age as specified by law in your jurisdiction, please contact us at quaintlq@icloud.com.

If you have questions or comments about your privacy rights, you may email us at quaintlq@icloud.com.
Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track ("DNT") feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage, no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals.
